GPRS – General Packet Radio Service

GPRS is a packet-orientated, mobile data transfer service for mobile phones and other devices that use GSM networks. 'Packet orientated' means that it is charged by the number of packets of data transmitted rather than by amount of time in use.

An extension to GSM standard, GPRS allows higher data transmission rates in GSM networks. Its moderate-speed data transfer enables documents, pictures and music to be transferred easily.

Assettagz uses GPRS functionality to synchronise the hand held device with the main hosted asset database using a mobile data SIM card. This is vital when a standard wired network or wireless network connection is not available.
